Silbernagel Apartment

Green Key ecolabel awarded

The Green Key award is the leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry.

A Green Key stands for the promise to its guests that by opting to stay with the Green Key establishment, they are helping to make a difference on an environmental level.

In the summer of 2021, our guest house was awarded with the Green Key label.

We do our best to justify this recognition and to keep moving towards more nature- and human-friendly travel.

UNESCO World Heritage

Saaremaa is a part of the Green Destination Award and the entire West Estonian archipelago is part of the global UNESCO program “Man and the Biosphere” (MaB) network.

UNESCO recognition shows that our islands are unique in their lifestyle. On the islands, people have been able to live in harmony for centuries with nature and the local resources have been used wisely. Sustainable lifestyle on the islands has always been intelligible!

In 2020, Saaremaa was in the TOP 100 list of sustainable destinations, which is announced by Green Destinations (International Organization for Sustainable Tourism).

In the same year, Saaremaa received a silver label award for the sustainable development of the area and was also chosen as the laureate of a sustainable travel destination in the Baltic Sea.

The vision of our guest house:

Following the principles of the Green Key, Silbernagel Apartment aims to provide a hospitable accommodation worthy of a welfare society in Kuressaare, with the smallest possible ecological footprint.

We apply environmentally friendly principles ourselves, moreover, inform and involve our guests to do the same. This makes it as easy as possible for them to also take part in the guest house’s environmentally friendly activities.

  • we use water, heat and electricity sparingly
  • we sort and reduce waste
  • we avoid the use of chemicals that are harmful or dangerous to the environment
  • we use environmentally friendly materials
  • we market the area and direct our guests to consume local
  • we take part in county events to contribute to the preservation of the natural environment
  • we use environmentally friendly solutions ourselves and prefer companies with the same mindset as cooperation partners
  • during the off-season we keep the overall consumption to a minimum

We ask our guests to contribute to the more sustainable use of natural resources:

  • using water sparingly in the shower
  • turning off the lights and the TV when leaving the room
  • using the same towel the next day
  • sorting garbage and waste
  • leaving used batteries or other hazardous waste in the kitchen cabinet
